Getting used to my new phone
I've spent the last week learning and hacking my new LG Voyager. It has a pretty good browser, mobile tv - including Comedy Central & MSNBC - and syncs to my computer, in Linux, with BitPim. It would be nice if I could find a 64 bit version, but the 32 bit one seems to be okay. With BitPim, I can sync Google Calendar, my phone book, and music. I bought a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter at Radio Shack (the clerk said it would work, ;)) and have already plugged it into the car to use it as an MP3 player. I'm now keeping a set of ear buds in my jacket, too.
The touch screen took me awhile to get used to, but I think I'm getting better at it. The keyboard is big enough to type on but it takes time to get used to the shift and symbol keys. I've already changed the homepage to the bookmarks and got a new AvantGo account. While the browser can bring up normal pages, big ones tend to lag and the reformatting can hose them. I've found that using the mobile pages work better, even when using the keyboard to navigate.
Google mobile also has a lot to offer. I bookmarked the products page and can assess bookmarks, Docs, Reader, Gmail, YouTube, mobile iGoogle, ... It seems that Google isn't doing much development for the Voyager, but there are hacks to run custom flash out, so there may be ways to use Google apps after all. I take it that Google and Verizon's relationship effects this lack of interest.
Next, I plan to put a movie or show in the 2Gig flash to see if it's worth the effort. While I've been burning the battery quickly, I hope I don't have to spurge for the long life one. That it can get a charge from the USB port might be enough. Or maybe when I'm done playing with it, the battery will last longer.
